This event addressed the challenges faced by women in the tech industry, as well as exploring emerging opportunities in AI, data, and leadership.

This article reflects on the key themes of the event, including career development, personal leadership, AI Trends and the role of Data, diversity, and inclusion, and how these intersect to create a limitless future for tech professionals.

The evening began with Laura Caicedo and Chara Gravani sharing an overview of their vision and mission for AWS Cloud Women - UK

💎The Power of a Limitless Mindset

Janet Robertson Global CIO of RS Group PLC, captivated the audience with her discussion on developing a "Limitless Mindset" along with her memorable encounter with Darth Vader. She encouraged participants to reframe their thinking and adopt an empowering perspective that embraces growth. Rather than saying, "I can't do that," Janet suggested a simple but transformative shift: "I can't do that YET." This forward-thinking approach allows individuals to break free from limiting beliefs and see challenges as opportunities for growth.

In a world where constant learning and adaptation are key to success, this mindset shift is invaluable. By embracing the potential for growth, we can push past perceived limitations and achieve more than we thought possible. Janet also highlighted the importance of compassion and empathy in leadership, emphasizing that great leaders not only drive themselves but also inspire and uplift those around them.

💎Embracing the Possibilities of Data and AI

Miriam Vizvary Chief Data Officer of RS Group PLC, took the stage to discuss her remarkable career journey and the endless possibilities in the realms of data and AI. Miriam's message was clear: "I can do anything I want." And that meant prioritising her family and role as a mum, alongside her perseverance and success, serving as a beacon of inspiration for all those navigating their career paths in tech, particularly in fields dominated by men. Her mention of her passion for knitting brought a smile to my face, reminding me of one of my childhood hobbies.

Miriam's insights on AI and data underscored the immense potential these technologies hold for the future of work and personal growth. The tech landscape is constantly evolving, and as AI continues to transform industries, it offers endless opportunities for innovation and impact. By harnessing the power of data and AI, tech professionals can position themselves at the forefront of this change and shape the future of their industries.

💎Insights on AI Trends and the Future of Tech

Peter Morgan shared insights on the latest trends in AI, offering attendees a glimpse into the transformative power of these technologies. His presentation was a highlight for many, shedding light on how AI is reshaping the industry, from automation to decision-making processes. The rapid advancements in AI are not just shaping the tech industry but also redefining the future of work across all sectors.

Peter's discussion was eye-opening, emphasizing the need for tech professionals to stay informed about these trends to remain competitive in their careers. As AI continues to evolve, it is crucial for individuals and organisations alike to adapt and embrace the changes it brings. For those looking to advance in their careers, understanding AI's impact and how to leverage it will be essential.

💎Building a Diverse and Inclusive Tech Community

A pivotal part of the event for me was the open panel discussion featuring Lisa Woodall Claudia Avila Martin Price and Fiona Llewellyn hosted by Menaka Shanmugavadivelu.

The panel tackled one of the most pressing challenges in the tech industry: attracting, retaining, and developing women in tech. The discussion was rich with insights into the barriers that women face in tech and the solutions that can help create a more inclusive and diverse community.

🌟Role Models

The panellists emphasized the importance of role models for the younger generation, allowing them to see what is possible and inspiring them to pursue careers in tech. Visibility is key, and having diverse representation in leadership roles can significantly impact the aspirations of future tech professionals.

Panel Discussion

A recurring theme was the concept of growth and development in the job application process. The panellists urged attendees not to wait until they meet 100% of the requirements before applying for a role. Where is the room for growth if you've done everything before? By applying for positions that stretch your abilities, you allow space for development, learning, and ultimately, advancement.

🌟The Importance of Authenticity and Networking

Authenticity was a theme woven throughout the event, with a particular focus on how professionals present themselves in the application process. In a world where AI can influence CVs, LinkedIn profiles, and even interview responses, staying true to yourself is more critical than ever. As the panellists pointed out, AI-generated content can often be spotted, and nothing beats the value of genuine, honest communication.

Networking also emerged as a key takeaway, even for introverts. The panel acknowledged that while networking can be uncomfortable, it is essential for career progression. Getting comfortable with discomfort is where growth happens, and by putting yourself out there, opportunities will start to come your way. From casual conversations in the coffee queue to more formal networking events, every interaction can open doors to new possibilities.

🌟Owning Your Career and Asking for Help

A consistent message throughout the event was the importance of taking ownership of your career. Know what you want, where you want to go, and actively seek support from your manager and colleagues to help you get there. Career progression is not just about waiting for opportunities to come to you; it's about being proactive, asking for help, and building the relationships that will support your journey.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) were highlighted as a valuable tool for building networks and fostering a sense of inclusion within the workplace. ERGs offer a supportive space where individuals can connect, share experiences, and grow both personally and professionally.

🌟Redefining the Hiring Process

One of the most thought-provoking insights from the event was the need to reconsider the hiring process. Fiona Llewellyn stated, "The tech industry has the potential to be one of the most diverse industries - we need to embrace and showcase this", but only if companies take steps to attract a broad range of talent. By considering what can be done differently in hiring practices, organisations can ensure that they are tapping into the full spectrum of potential candidates, not just those who fit a narrow mould.

Fiona Llewellyn sharing an introduction to RS Group

The panellists urged hiring managers to "see the unseen potential" in candidates. People are more than their CVs, and while skills can be taught, attitude and potential are invaluable traits that can drive success in the long term. By focusing on these qualities, companies can build more diverse and dynamic teams.

💎Personal Leadership: The Key to Advancing Your Career

As part of the event, I was invited by Geetha Elliott to deliver a session on Personal Leadership, sharing strategies and actionable insights to help attendees advance their careers and step into Leadership. Drawing from my proprietary framework, The Aspiring Leaders Blueprint™, I discussed the six core pillars of leadership development:

✨Clarity: Defining your vision and understanding what you want to be known for in your career.

✨Mindset: Developing self-awareness and letting go of limiting beliefs that hold you back.

✨Executive Presence: Enhancing non-verbal communication, posture, eye contact, and overall presence.

✨Effective Communication: Focusing on how you deliver your message—it's not just about what you say, but how you say it.

✨Relationships & Networking: Cultivating your network to create career opportunities and build a circle of influence.

✨Personal Leadership: Taking responsibility for your career and developing the ability to positively influence your outcomes.

In today's competitive landscape, developing these skills is essential for anyone looking to stand out and advance in their career. By focusing on personal leadership, you can take charge of your professional journey and unlock your full potential.
